I had some trouble getting my .htpasswd file to work on my GoDaddy Economy Shared Linux hosting account. To eliminate the possibility that the encrypted passwords I was getting from other Internet sites were not portable to GoDaddy servers, I created my own page for encrypting passwords for the .htpasswd file. It works for me; your mileage may vary.

The script to perform the encryption is an adaptation of one at www.ILoveJackDaniels.com which contains additional information for using .htpasswd to password protect directories served by apache web servers.
